Omni Services History – The Beginning

1976

Bob Mitchell left his job as Vice President of sales at a regional hydraulics company because he was disappointed with the way the employees were treated. He wanted to start a “people company” were he could be successful selling while treating the people that worked for him with dignity, respect and trust. In February of 1976 after a successful career in industrial sales Bob Mitchell partnered with John Snyder to start Omni Services. Ever the optimist Bob mortgaged the house and partnered with Aeroquip to start selling hydraulic hose and fittings.

1978

Quickly Bob Mitchell had set his sights on growing the business and opened a location in Londonderry New Hampshire.

1991

In early 1991 Omni Services acquired “the Tool Crib” which was owned by a longtime friend of Bob Mitchell and was already selling fluid conveyance products purchased through Omni Services. This brought the addition of the Portsmouth New Hampshire location.

1993

Because much of the early focus of Omni Services was on the injection molding industry a location in Leominster Massachusetts was opened to cater specifically to injection molders and plastics manufactures in the greater Leominster and Fitchburg area.

1996

In 1996 Omni Services turns its eyes south to Connecticut acquiring Allied Industrial Products, a business established in 1973 and located in New Britain.

1999

Always with an eye on growth Omni makes its largest acquisition to date buying the Shako Company headquartered in Albany New York with two additional locations, one in Syracuse, NY and the other in Buffalo, NY. This doubled the size of the company but proved to be a difficult acquisition. Through a lot of hard work and many years the acquisition proved to be a pivotal move and teaching moment as Omni looked to continue its growth.

2004

Omni moves its warehouse out of the headquarter location in Worcester, MA to a new 13,000 sqft. warehouse which gives much more room for growth.

2007

With a realization that much of the “industrial” business was leaving the Northeast there was a focus to expand the other product lines and categories that had been secondary to Omni’s hydraulic hose and connector business. Moves were made to add inventory and staff to grow the industrial hose market, instrumentation and high purity fluid connects as well as hard wall formed tube manufacturing. In 2007 Omni opened up its Falconer New York location servicing the Southern Tier with fluid conveyance products and adding a small crew to start Omni Tubbing Corp.

2011

In 2011 Omni Services expands its industrial hose capabilities and opens a new location and warehouse in Elmira, NY focusing on the oil and gas boom that was taking place.

2012

Omni Services acquired a long standing local supplier of fluid conveyance products, Cedrone Luber-Finer Sales located in Quincy Massachusetts. With the acquisition the branch was moved two miles to Braintree, MA right off I 93. Omni also acquires the fluid conveyance business of long time affiliate distributor Mountain Fluid Power in Auburn Maine and opens a retail location within the Mountain Fluid Power footprint.

2013

After a three year partnership with Flex Enterprises in Victor New York Flex agrees to be acquired by Omni Services. With the acquisition Omni consolidates all formed tubing operations to the Victor location and opens up a retail Express Store.

2014

The state of New York again places a moratorium on fracking which combined with the drop in oil and gas prices causes oil and gas companies to stop all activities in the Marcellus region. The Elmira industrial hose operation is consolidated into the Auburn Massachusetts warehouse which nearly triples in size from 13,000 sqft to 32,000 sqft. Omni also opens its first international location in Mount Forest Ontario Canada.

August 2014

Omni mourns the loss of the founder and CEO, Bob Mitchell. Mr. Mitchell provided the bones for a great company to rest on and his memory lives on in all who work at Omni Services because of the culture he founded.

2015

Omni partners with a long standing affiliate distributor, Tradon Inc. to open a location on Long Island in Deer Park New York. At the same time Omni opens its 15th location, this time just west of New York City, in Pine Brook, New Jersey. The Buffalo, NY location is moved four miles east to Tonawanda, NY to better accommodate retail customers.

2016

Omni acquires their first distributor/location outside of New England and expands their physical footprint into the south via the acquisition of Carolina Rubber & Specialties in Winston-Salem, NC. This helps to support the local business that Omni has established over many years by offering a true local address.

2019

Acquisition of KAD Industrial Rubber Products in New Castle, Delaware
